Samba Fogo is a cultural arts organization providing year-round programming locally and nationally. Through our various programs, Samba Fogo brings Afro-Brazilian dance and music to life on the stage and in the classroom. Our programs include the following:

Samba Fogo Music and Dance Company: A professional company of 17 performers, presenting high-quality work in the proscenium setting. Drawing on rich Afro-Brazilian traditions and mythology, Samba Fogo Music and Dance Company fuses live Afro-Brazilian music and dance with contemporary dance, martial arts, and fire dance, creating an exciting and culturally rich choreographic style.

Samba Fogo Community Group: A performing, community-based band, consisting of approximately 60 members of all levels, from students to professionals. Check out our join page for more info on getting involved – we are always looking for more drummers!

Drum and Dance Classes for All Ages and Ability Levels: Classes and workshops in Brazilian and Afro-Brazilian dance and music. Our weekly Afro-Brazilian dance class is accompanied by live Samba Fogo drummers, and provides an exhilarating and nurturing environment in which to explore this grounded, energetic movement with instructor and Artistic Director, Lorin Hansen. Check out our classes page for more information.

Performances at Local Clubs, Festivals, and Special Events: Visit our calendar page to keep up with Samba Fogo performances and other programming. Visit our booking page for more information on booking Samba Fogo to perform at your event.

Educational Outreach and Resdencies: Samba Fogo has a long history of connecting with communities through educational outreach and residencies, both locally and nationally. We offer workshops in Brazilian and Afro-Brazilian dance, drumming, and martial art, as well as contemporary dance technique and creative movement classes. Educational workshops are inspiring, enlivening, and educational for communities. Bringing Samba Fogo drummers, dancers, and martial artists into your school or program can be a great way to introduce students to the amazing world of samba. Visit our booking page for more information.

Guest Instructor Residencies in Salt Lake City: Samba Fogo welcomes world-renowned instructors of Brazilian and Afro-Brazilian music and dance to our city to teach community classes and facilitate member training. Past instructors include Rosangela Silvestre, Jorge Alabe, and Mark Lamson. Keep an eye on our calendar to stay informed of upcoming residencies.

Samba Fogo Music and Dance Company and Samba Fogo Community Group are projects of Shangó Music and Dance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization whose mission is to promote and provide access to the expression, appreciation, and understanding of Brazilian, African, and Cuban art forms.
