Samba Fogo’s 3rd Annual Samba Queen Competition, a Brazilian dance party and contest. Come watch Utah’s hottest Samba dancers compete for the title of Samba Queen, and show off your own moves on the dance floor all night long! Live music and dancing for all. Appetizers and cash bar.

• Live music starts 9:00pm. Competition starts 10:15pm.

All proceeds go toward Samba Fogo's non-profit cultural arts programming in Utah.

*Do you dance Samba??? The Samba Queen competition is open to everyone. Each contestant gets two minutes on stage with the live Samba Fogo band, and a $200 cash prize goes to the 1st place Samba Queen. Costumes are available to rent, and private or group training from Samba Fogo Artistic Director Lorin Hansen is available to prepare for the contest. Queremos ver você sambar! Samba Fogo and Backbeats Drum & Backline present a 4-week Brazilian percussion workshop with master drummer and Samba Fogo Musical Director, Mason Aeschbacher. Samba Fogo is looking for more drummers to join our performing ranks, and we are holding a special workshop to recruit and train new local talent:

• Saturdays, March 24 - April 14 2012, 1:00-3:00pm
• Located at the new Salt Lake ArtsHub, 663 West 100 South in Downtown SLC
• $30
• All instruments provided

Workshop Packet Includes:

• One free 30-minute drum lesson with Mason Aeschbacher on drumkit or Brazilian percussion instrument of your choice
• Eight hours of group instruction designed to prepare students for successful audition into Samba Fogo
• Recital + Samba Fogo audition on final day of the workshop

Upon successful audition into the band, participation in Samba Fogo is free of charge, and performance opportunities include local and national festivals, clubs and parades, local stage productions, accompaniment for local dance classes, educational residencies, and national touring productions. The band rehearses every Sunday, 2-4. If accepted, drummers are expected to attend rehearsal each week and be available for local performances.
