Dance Audition for 2014
Saturday, January 4, 2-4pm:
Audition to perform with Samba Fogo's Dance Company! We have openings in all three of our Dance Company sections:
-Full Dance Company
We will be auditioning for Full Dance Company members to perform in our Spring show at Jeanne Wagner Theater, April 3-5, and we also have spots available in our Passista Group and Ala, which will perform for various community events throughout 2014. Previous experience in Modern, Jazz, Samba and Afro-Brazilian dance very helpful for all companies.
Prepare for the audition by attending our weekly dance class and studying with Samba Fogo: Thursdays, 6:30-8:00pm, at the SLC Arts Hub, 663 W 100 S
Dance Company: time commitment for the Spring Show is 5 hours per week, and contract runs 3 months: Rehearsals begin Sunday, January 12 and run every Sunday, 1-4pm, until the performance on the evenings of April 3, 4 & 5. The Spring Show cast will be given free weekly dance class on Thursdays, 6:30-8pm, which they will be required to attend weekly throughout the 3-month contract.
Passistas Group: Passistas must own and maintain their own passista costume. Passista contracts run 6 months, and time commitment is fairly minimal: Passistas are expected to attend weekly dance class at least once per month, and participate in at least one performance per month. Please see list of recent performance highlights below for info on what sort of events Samba Fogo typically performs at throughout each year. Passistas will receive weekly dance class for a discounted rate of $8 throughout their 6-month contract.
Ala: Ala members rent an ala costume from Samba Fogo and are invited to perform in approximately 2-3 events throughout 2014. Ala members will be asked to attend 1-2 rehearsals, scheduled as each event approaches. Rehearsals will be on Sunday afternoons and / or Thursday nights. Ala time commitment is very minimal. Ala members are encouraged to continue taking weekly class with Samba Fogo throughout the year.
Full Dance Company members will receive a small stipend for participating in the Spring Show. Passista Group and Ala performer positions are predominately unpaid. (But a lot of fun)!!
